KEY FORWARD Mitch Clark has conceded his opening round against his former team wasn’t not up to scratch, before he hit back to boot an equal career-best five goals in round two.

Clark, who was a shining light in Melbourne’s 108-point loss to West Coast at Patersons Stadium last Saturday, reflected on Tuesday about his first two matches with the Dees.

“I wasn’t happy with my game against the Lions,” he said at the Junction Oval on Tuesday, where the club held a kids’ clinic.

“It wasn’t up to my standards, so I just tried to stick at it and work hard on the track, and I got on the end of a few over the weekend.

“Hopefully, I can continue to build on that.”

Clark said the team was trying to adapt as quickly as possible under new coach Mark Neeld’s game plan.

“I can’t comment on previous years, but the group is really excited about playing under Neeldy,” he said.

“We know where we’re heading as a group … we just need a bit of time.”

Meanwhile, Clark said the spotlight on Melbourne - both the club and football city - was vastly different to Queensland, where he spent the past six seasons.

“It’s a bit different to Brisbane - the papers especially, [as] you’ve got to flick about 10 pages in to get to the footy up there,” he said.

“But I knew that coming down, and that’s the world we live in.

“If you’re not ready, it can get a hold of you.”
