Thousands of fans flocked onto the arena to celebrate the Dees’ first win of the season, to cap off Kids’ Day at the MCG.
19,423 was the official attendance figure for the day, but after the game Dean Bailey claimed that it sounded like there were over 70,000 in the Red and Blue Army.
Before the game, 1,000 children were given flags outside the ground, creating a sea of red and blue after every goal.
Of the crowd, Bailey said: “They were outstanding and we thank them for coming along and giving us the support and sticking it out for the game, and I know that they helped us get over the line – there’s no question about that.”
Long after the final kids had left the arena, Bailey celebrated his first win as senior coach by having a kick with his two sons, at the city end of the ground.
Many members have sent photos from the game, of which we have posted some below.
