NEW RECRUIT James Sellar is good enough to be in Melbourne’s best 22, according to coach Mark Neeld.

The former Adelaide Crow was claimed by Melbourne at No.54 in the NAB AFL Draft on Thursday night.

Neeld said the 2006 first round draft pick - who was selected by Adelaide at No.14 - could add flexibility to the red and blue immediately.

“James is an ex-first round draft pick. He’s got five years of experience in the system, and he comes from a very quality club in Adelaide,” Neeld told melbournefc.com.au.

“We see him as a player who can step right into the side now. He’s a versatile player, who can play key back or key forward and we also have a strong belief that he’s just what our list needs right now.

“He can come in and help out the young kids to develop and at the same time, at his age of 22, he’s got a fair bit of development to do himself, so we’re extremely pleased.”

Neeld said Neil Craig and Todd Viney “might’ve whispered a little bit of information about James our way”.

“Those two have been quite heavily relied upon to provide information about James in the last couple of days,” he said.
