MARK Neeld says young draftees Rory Taggert and Josh Tynan will be dependable, aggressive ball players for the Demons.

Neeld said Taggert (selected at No. 36) and Tynan (No. 52), who were claimed by Melbourne at Thursday night’s NAB AFL Draft, have already made an impression on him.

“I’ve met both boys, and they are strong characters,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“They are people Melbourne will be able to rely on in years to come - I like that.

“They’re both hard at the footy and they can both play versatile, but they play back predominantly. They can go forward and they can go through the midfield, so we’ve got some versatility.

“We’ve got young guys with a little bit of height, but we’ve got three players who are courageous and hard at the footy.”

Attending his first NAB AFL Draft as senior coach, Neeld said it was a “great experience”.

“It was a little bit nerve-wracking at times, but it was just good to sit at the front with Barry [Prendergast], and to have a look at how the recruiters go about it and the pressure that they’re placed under,” he said.

He said it was fascinating to watch the recruiters go about their business in recent weeks.

“It was a really good experience to sit back at times and see how hard the recruiters work, and what goes into getting them to this stage,” he said.

“It’s a full 12-month combination of a lot of hard work, and the knowledge that the Melbourne recruiting team had about all of the players that we were looking at was absolutely phenomenal.

“They pretty much picked it to a t [in terms of], who they thought would be there. We were extremely pleased with the three players that we’ve added to our list.”
