FORWARD line coach Leigh Brown says the acquisition of new sponsor Webjet has given the football department a spark and reinforced that “the club is heading in the right direction”.

Brown said it was “a real positive for the club” and urged other sponsors to get behind the Demons, after a trying month.

“It’s fantastic. Hopefully there are a few more out there who want to jump on board. For Webjet, it’s fantastic for them to be a part of the Melbourne footy club now,” he said.

“It shows there is some belief, and there is definitely some belief from within. People from the outside have jumped on now, and it’s fantastic for us to put some more things in place.

“Hopefully it’ll help the boys’ performance and what we’re trying to get in place going forward as well.”

Brown said that while the landing of Webjet was a great result for the club, it wasn’t the sponsor’s job to motivate the players entering an important clash.

“I don’t think the sponsorship can do much out in the middle of the MCG on the weekend, but it’s about the boys’ performance,” he said.

“It can certainly help with getting things to help the boys with recovery or performance.

“But once you walk across the white line, there is not too much a sponsor can do out there.”
