MELBOURNE chief executive Cameron Schwab says the clubs new training facility at AAMI Park should boost the spirits of the players as they move away from the run-down Junction Oval.

Schwab said it was good that the younger players had a feel for the challenges of training at Junction Oval before they moved into the more modern facilty.

"Jack [Trengove] and Tom [Scully] and Jordan Gysberts - they've at least had the experience of training three quarters of the year out at Junction Oval," Schwab told melbournefc.com.au.

"So they'll have great respect for what's happening here [at AAMI Park], whereas perhaps the next generation of players might take it for granted."

Schwab said the Demons will relocate their football department from Junction Oval to the Olympic Park precinct in early July.

"That [timeframe] is really just to take the time to fit out our area. All of the equipment starts arriving over the next few weeks and we're getting more access now with the major part of the building being finished," he said.

Already Schwab has seen the benefits of the new base, which will only enhance once the Dees move in, and believes the club has the advantage of all the latest mod cons because they were the last club to move into new facilities.

"After games our players will be able to go from the MCG and do all of their recovery, because there are pools and hot spas and cold spas. All of that stuff is ready to go, plus there are learning centres and lecture theatres and player lounges."

Schwab said the AAMI Park facility was among the elite in the competition.

"We're clearly the worst now and we're going into facilities, which allow us to be what we need to be," he said.

"The notion of being the best is a question of opinion, but there are no compromises being had as part of this arrangement."

Melbourne's move from the Junction Oval will end a longer than expected association with the St Kilda venue.

The club moved into Junction Oval in 1985 as a short-term fix when they were required to vacate the MCG and have been there ever since.

"While we've played in a couple of grand finals training out at those facilities, there is not a lot of romance associated with it," Schwab said.
