TENACIOUS ball-winner Nathan Jones says he is relishing the opportunity to play under new coach Mark Neeld’s revamped game-plan.

Jones, who was acting captain in Melbourne’s nine-point NAB Cup win over Collingwood at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night, said Neeld’s style strongly suited him.

“For me personally, I love it, because that contested brand of footy suits our play,” he said post-match.

“I think our boys have had a pretty grueling pre-season, so we prepared pretty well for it.

“This is good that we’ve performed two weeks in a row, especially coming back [from Gold Coast] last week. We’re just looking to improve again next week.”

Jones, who finished with 10 contested possessions from 20 disposals, highlighted the areas of improvements.

“Amongst the boys, the communication and structures [are better] and we’re working together better as a unit,” he said.

“Our intent and competitiveness … guys are willing to put their head over the footy, which is impressive.”
