MELBOURNE has named a 32-man squad - including six new players - for the opening night of NAB Cup matches to be played at AAMI Stadium on Friday.
Under the revamped format, the Demons will play Adelaide, followed by Port Adelaide.
The Crows and Power will meet in the final of the three matches to be played.
Recruits Lucas Cook, Jeremy Howe, Tom McDonald, Daniel Nicholson, Michael Evans and Cameron Johnston have been included in the provisional squad.
Sam Blease, who was claimed at No.17 in the 2008 NAB AFL Draft, is also set to play his first official match for Melbourne.
Tom Scully (knee soreness) has been named in the initial squad, but is under an injury cloud.
Robert Campbell (achilles), Jack Fitzpatrick (foot), James Frawley (pectoral muscle), Nathan Jones (back soreness), Jordie McKenzie (groin soreness), Michael Newton (wrist), Ricky Petterd (hamstring) and
Matthew Warnock (ankle) will miss through injury.
Two Demons who made limited appearances last year, Stef Martin and Addam Maric, have been named. The duo has been among Melbourne’s best pre-season trainers.
Another emerging Demon, Jamie Bennell, has also been a standout over summer and is in the squad.
Three Melbourne players will be left out of the squad, with 29 to play across the two matches.
