MELBOURNE will start red-hot favourites this weekend against Richmond at the MCG and defender James Frawley says it will be an unusual experience.

Frawley said he did not know what to make of it, considering he has rarely experienced winning at the club in his four AFL seasons.

"I don't know [what it's going to be like. We haven't been] favourites in four years at the club. We'll just go at it like every other game and hopefully we'll give it our best shot and come away with the four points," he said at Junction Oval on Monday.

"We can't really look too ahead of ourselves … we've won 13 games in the last four years, so we've got to take every game as it comes and do our best and try and win a few more this year.

"We probably should've really won that game [against Collingwood], so it was long overdue."

The Demons have won just eight of their 47 matches under coach Dean Bailey, with Frawley experiencing only 10 victories in 42 appearances since debuting under Neale Daniher in round nine, 2007.

Out of Bailey's eight wins, all have come at the MCG against non-Victorian clubs, except Richmond in round four last year.

Frawley, who was one of Melbourne's best in its 16-point win over Adelaide at the MCG on Sunday, said he was pleased with his progression at the highest level.

"It was the most touches I've had, but I just try to lock my opponent away and try and run off and create and work on aspects of my game to improve on," he said.

"If I could do that, I'll get better and that's what I'm trying to improve on. I've played 40-odd games now, so I'm feeling a lot more comfortable out there.

"We've got a pretty young backline or young team, so I feel old at 21, but I've just got to keep encouraging the young fellas. I'm feeling more a part of it."

Frawley also praised teammate ruckman Mark Jamar, who has started the season in impressive fashion.

"Russian has had a very good start," he said.

"He'd probably be up there with the best ruckmen in the league at the start of the year."
