AARON Davey's looks likely to make his long-awaited return against Geelong on Saturday.

A knee injury has kept Davey out of the Melbourne team since the round nine loss to St Kilda at Etihad Stadium but he said he was likely to come back this week.

"I'm going along reasonably well. I've got a final test tomorrow so everything's all ticked off at the moment. If I can pull up Friday, I'm pretty confident. I ran on Monday and felt no soreness yesterday," Davey said at the launch of a book about Melbourne teammate Liam Jurrah.

"I reckon at this stage I'm ready to go this week and I'm looking forward to it. It's been a very long period but one that's really helped me as a player, to sit back, assess where I'm at and clear my mind."

Demons coach Dean Bailey had said earlier in the week that Davey was unlikely to come straight back in to the Melbourne team and the 28-year-old said he would return however the club saw fit.

"I'm happy to just get through tomorrow. Whatever decision the coaches make, if it's Casey I'd love to play at Casey," Davey said.

"The only downside is I've got to get there at 8.40 in the morning. I haven't done that since under-16s I reckon. Wherever I play, I'm rapt to be back.  Fingers crossed and touch wood I'll pull up Friday morning fresh."

Another Demon on the road to recovery is midfielder Tom Scully whose troublesome knee forced him to miss last week's loss to Hawthorn.

"I reckon he's a good chance. He pulled up a bit sore from the Darwin trip and obviously being in Darwin it takes a lot out of you, mentally and physically. Having the week off I don't reckon would have hurt," Davey said.

"He's a really good chance and let's hope he gets up."

Jurrah is also likely to return after he was a late withdrawal last week because of illness.
