Todd Viney’s season assessment
Jack had an injury-interrupted year, but he played some really good games when he came back. He forced his way into the senior team for a match - the final round against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval - and at 200cm, he will be a really exciting player for us with another pre-season under his belt. He also has elite speed.

Round-by-round assessment

AFL: Round 1 v Sydney Swans
Injured: foot

VFL reserves: Round 1 v Northern Bullants
Jack played the second half in the reserves and had 12 touches. He mainly played forward and kicked 1.4. He was a little bit rusty coming back for his first game. He snapped a couple, just missed some and also had a long shot at goal. Otherwise I was pleased with him. Brad Gotch

VFL reserves: Round 2 v Port Melbourne
Jack got through about 60 per cent game time and looked ok, so he progressed well. Brad Gotch

VFL reserves: Round 3 v North Ballarat
Jack only had eight possessions in an OK performance. Brad Gotch

VFL: Round 4 - Bye

It was good for Fitzy to get some game time and to get through the game. He played about 60 per cent. Brad Gotch

VFL: Round 17 - Bye

VFL reserves: Round 18 v Frankston
Jack kicked six goals in a best-on-ground performance. It was a fine display after coming back from injury during the season. Brad Gotch

VFL: Round 19 v Sandringham
It was Jack’s first game for a while in the seniors. He took on the second ruck role and lined up in the forward line as well. He had a hand in a couple of goals and there was no doubt that he would get better and gain more confidence as the weeks went on. Brad Gotch

VFL: Round 20 v Coburg Tigers
Jack looked dangerous early before Robert Campbell went down, which forced him to take on the No.1 ruck position. Jack battled tirelessly to end up with 13 possessions, seven marks and three team acts. He also provided a solid ruck contest. Brad Gotch

VFL: Round 21 v Werribee Tigers
He showed some promising signs, but didn’t quite deliver on the day. He showed genuine speed and promise in the air, which was encouraging though. Brad Gotch

AFL: Round 23 v Gold Coast Suns (emergency)/VFL: Round 22 v Northern Bullants
While Jack only managed three touches in the first half, he looked a dangerous option at times. Jack finished up with four goals, thirteen touches and six marks, which was a very good return on the day. Brad Gotch

AFL: Round 24 v Port Adelaide
It was an exciting day for Fitzy. He played his first AFL match and involved himself in the game very well. He presented really well, but just needed to finish off his good work with a bit more composure. This game will help Fitzy understand what is required at senior level, and will help springboard him into pre-season. Mark Williams

VFL: Semi-final v Werribee Tigers
Jack failed to have any real influence. He went to the wing in the final quarter, and showed promising signs. Kelly O’Donnell
