Melbourne Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Deloitte Victoria Managing Partner John Trotter to its Board of Directors.

Trotter is the club’s first new appointment since the Stynes-led board came into office mid-2008.

Stynes said the addition of Trotter would further strengthen the board. “We are delighted to have John join the club,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“He is a great addition to the board, bringing a unique set of business skills to the club, while he has great passion for the Demons and an insight into football from community level to the elite environment.”

Trotter said he was rapt to join the club, where he could mix his business acumen and network with his love of the Melbourne Football Club.

“It’s a little bit like 'boys own annual' - here’s something you’ve loved all of your life and now you’ve been asked to be involved in it.

“I have been a Demons supporter since the day I was born ... and I was actually on one of the backpages of ‘The Herald’ in 1964 - the night we won the grand final. I had a flogger and was with the cheersquad.”

John was invited onto the board by president Jim Stynes and Vice Presidents Don McLardy and Guy Jalland and will join fellow Directors Stuart Grimshaw, Karen Hayes, Russel Howcroft, Andrew Leoncelli, Peter Spargo and David Thurin.

In accordance with Melbourne Football Club constitution, Trotter will stand for re-election at the club’s 2010 Annual General Meeting.

John is a member of Deloitte’s national management executive, which sets the strategic direction and manages the operations of its 4,500-plus Australian personnel (170,000 globally).

He is global lead partner for National Australia Bank, one of the top 20 banks in the world, and one of Deloitte Australia’s largest clients.

He has built businesses for Deloitte across Asia, and has managed Deloitte businesses around the globe.

Trotter also consults for some of Australia’s leading organisations, focussing on corporate governance, risk management, strategic growth and structures for driving growth.

His football background extends more than 40 years.

He played school football for Brighton Grammar, won a premiership in interfaculty football at Melbourne University, and has been involved with Old Brighton Grammarians Amateur Football Club since 1971.

Trotter has been involved in every key role at OBGAFC from president to player, through to recruiting and player mentoring, which he is still involved in today.

He has had a direct association with the MFC as a member of the Melbourne Coterie, Mates of Melbourne, and more recently was a member of the touring group to China. He is also a Foundation Hero.

Trotter also played a key role in bringing the ‘Peace Team’ from the Middle East, which participated in the AFL International Cup.
