Brown to coach Demon forwards
By Al Paton

RETIRED Magpie Leigh Brown has moved on quickly from Grand Final defeat, joining Melbourne today as an assistant coach. Brown will work under new Melbourne coach Mark Neeld - an assistant coach himself at Collingwood until just two weeks ago. Brown will be in charge of the Demons' forward line. The 246-game veteran said on announcing his retirement he was keen to pursue a coaching career, and he has worked with the coaches of TAC Cup team the Calder Cannons to hone his skills. "The Melbourne Football Club has offered me a great opportunity to begin the next phase of my career in football. I’m really looking forward getting started at the club and working with Mark Neeld and his team," Brown said today.

Brown to take the Demons forward
By Greg Denham

TWO days after losing to Geelong in his last game, Collingwood's grand final forward Leigh Brown yesterday joined his fourth club as Melbourne's new forwards coach. The veteran of 246 games with Fremantle, North Melbourne and the Magpies adds yet another fresh face to a revitalised Demons football department that hardly resembles this year's group. The clean-out at Melbourne - which won eight games this season for a total of 28 from 110 over the past five years - started when senior coach Dean Bailey was axed after round 19. Bailey was replaced last month by recent Collingwood assistant coach Mark Neeld, who has worked closely with Brown over the past three years. Also joining the fold is highly respected former Adelaide coach Neil Craig, 55, who last week severed a long association with the Crows to join Melbourne in a new role as director of sports performance.
