ON THE BACK of his Keith ‘Bluey’ Truscott Memorial Trophy win last Friday night, Brent Moloney claimed 19 votes in this year’s Brownlow Medal.
Moloney claimed a position in the top 12 in this year’s count - a fine effort considering Melbourne’s topsy-turvy 2011 season.
Not surprisingly, he started the season strongly.
After seven rounds, only Essendon’s Jobe Watson (11 votes), plus eventual winner Dane Swan and his Magpie teammate Scott Pendlebury (10) were ahead of Moloney.
‘Beamer’ had nine votes with West Coast ruckman Dean Cox.
In the finish, Moloney had 19 votes, along with West Coast’s Matt Priddis, Carlton’s Marc Murphy and Swan Adam Goodes.
Moloney polled five best on grounds against Brisbane Lions (round three), Adelaide Crows (round seven), Richmond (round 14), Port Adelaide (round 17), and Port Adelaide (round 24).
Colin Sylvia was the only other Demon to reach double figures, polling 10 votes.
Moloney ran away with Melbourne's best and fairest award this year, winning ahead of Jared Rivers, James Frawley, Nathan Jones and Jack Trengove.
Swan won the Brownlow Medal with 34 votes - an outstanding achievement and a record under the 3-2-1 polling system.
