Todd Viney’s season assessment
Jordan had an injury-interrupted pre-season, but then he played some really good footy for us in the midfield. He was exposed for us in the midfield and we were disappointed that we couldn’t get him and Jack Trengove together a bit more. Jordie proved that he can play in the midfield and we’re looking to get him fitter and stronger. He’s got some outstanding midfield attributes.

Round-by-round assessment
Comments made by 2011 Melbourne coaching staff members Mark Williams, Brad Gotch and Kelly O’Donnell

AFL: Round 1 v Sydney Swans
Did not play (played in VFL practice match)

VFL: Round 1 v Geelong
Jordan had 14 clearances and 30 touches and was outstanding. He was really good around the stoppages and he used the ball well to set up the game. Jordan was the architect behind the game.Brad Gotch

AFL: Round 3 v Brisbane Lions
In just his fourth AFL match and first for the season, it was great to see Jordan get another game under his belt. He did some great work around the stoppages, feeding the ball out with some strong handballs. His positioning was also very good.Mark Williams

AFL: Round 4 v Gold Coast Suns
Jordan gave his opponent a little bit of space at the stoppages, but it was tough conditions for young fellas. His inside work was still pretty good. We just need his body to remain right and play his role. But it was only his fifth AFL game.Mark Williams

AFL: Round 5 - Bye

AFL: Round 6 v West Coast Eagles
Jordie fumbled a little bit, after he came off some solid form. He needed to continue to work on his physicality and his involvement in the game.Mark Williams

AFL: Round 7 v Adelaide Crows
Jordie worked really hard. His inside work was good and his physicality continued to improve.Mark Williams

AFL: Round 8 v North Melbourne
Jordie showed some really good signs in the development of his game. He played intelligently around the stoppages and set up well structurally. Jordie won the hard ball inside and made good decisions with his hands.Mark Williams

AFL: Round 9 v St Kilda
Jordie had a fantastic game. His physicality was excellent, as was his distribution of the ball by hand in close. He made some great decisions and continued his improvement. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 10 v Carlton
Jordie was solid inside and worked really hard outside. He needed to keep focused on his spread away from stoppages and his defensive game. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 11 v Essendon
Jordie had an outstanding game. His in and under work was fantastic. The highlight of his performance was his speed and ball use. He was 80 per cent effective with his disposals, had 17 handball receives and had three inside 50s. He also had 10 scoring involvements.
Mark Williams

AFL: Round 12 v Collingwood
Jordie had an average game. He didn’t involve himself physically enough at stoppages and didn’t use his running ability to impact in general play.Mark Williams

AFL: Round 13 v Fremantle
Injured: general soreness

AFL: Round 14 v Richmond
Jordie used the ball very efficiently. He worked hard to move the ball quickly. His defensive work was very good. He laid an outstanding tackle in the last quarter, when the game was almost over, which typified his effort.Mark Williams

AFL: Round 15 v Western Bulldogs
Jordie did some good things, and used the ball well on most occasions. He did turn the ball over a few times under pressure, and needed to continue to focus on his defensive positioning. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 16 - Bye

AFL: Round 17 v Port Adelaide
Jordie won good ball very well in close. He continued to make good decisions with his hands, and started to feel like he belonged. He needed to continue to work on his spread both ways.Mark Williams

AFL: Round 18 v Hawthorn
Jordie had limited possessions, but was in a position to receive the ball on numerous occasions and wasn’t used. His defensive game continued to improve each week. He also had seven tackles, which was another great step forward for Jordie.Mark Williams

AFL: Round 19 v Geelong Cats
I think he was a bit out of his depth and looked tired and sore. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 20 v Carlton
Jordie did some really good things in and under at stoppage, especially early in the game. As the game wore on, Jordie became fatigued and had less impact with the number of possessions and the impact of his ball use. Mark Williams
