The exchange, involving Melbourne, Gold Coast and Brisbane Lions, was officially the 22nd of 29 transactions completed on the final day of trade week.
The gains from this trade were:
Melbourne: Third round selection (No.52)
Gold Coast Suns: Matthew Warnock and second round selection No.34 (on-traded to Geelong)
Brisbane Lions: Dayne Zorko (Queensland zone selection) and second round selection (No.47)
Warnock departs Melbourne after giving the club some fine service.
He started his career as a rookie with the Demons and battled hard to win a place in the side.
But the now 27-year-old claimed back-to-back top five finishes in Melbourne’s best and fairest in 2008-09.
Yet this year he fought for a position in the 22, playing just four matches.
The key defender played 55 matches for Melbourne from 2006-11 and was a respected player at the club.
With Melbourne now having No.52, it is interesting to note that the Demons have had picks in this region in the past three drafts.
National recruiting manager Barry Prendergast has secured some promising players around the No.50 mark, with Jack Fitzpatrick (No.50), Troy Davis (No.50), Neville Jetta (No.51) and Tom McDonald (No.53) joining the Demons during the 2008-10 period.
Earlier on Monday, the 17th official trade was completed when Lion forward/ruckman Mitch Clark came to Melbourne.
Clark agreed to join the Demons on Saturday night and spoke at a media conference on Monday morning at AAMI Park.
The Demons gave the Lions a first round selection (No.12) for the Clark.
