At Casey Fields on Friday 21 January, around 25 of the best female footballers from the Victorian Women’s Football League took part in a training session under the guidance of Melbourne stars Brad Green, Jack Grimes, Jamie Bennell, and Neville Jetta, in an opportunity provided through the ongoing partnership between the Victorian Women’s Football League (VWFL) and the Melbourne Football Club.
The girls began the session by learning about the importance of preparation and recovery before and after training sessions and games, as well as learning about healthy eating and nutrition to ensure they are fit and healthy for competition.
After taking in tips from the boys, the girls headed outside to Casey Fields Oval Number Two to take part in a 45 minute training session, focusing on doing a proper warm up, fitness and skills routines, and finishing off with a friendly goal kicking competition.
The girls then had the opportunity to ask the players questions, as well as pose for photos and collect their favorite Demons’ signatures.
The girls were given the chance to take part in the session, after they were each nominated by their peers to receive the VWFL Rising Stars award in their division. The Rising Star award acknowledges great individual achievements on and off the field, with one girl per round in each of the four divisions being awarded the Rising Star.
