VERSATILE tall Michael Newton will miss the next six to eight weeks after suffering a broken wrist at training.

Football general manager Chris Connolly said it was a hiccup for Newton, but one that won’t hold him back long-term.

“It’s a minor setback, but he has been outstanding on the training track,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“He can continue his conditioning with his running and he’ll continue his speed and endurance program.”

Newton is a second-year rookie after spending five seasons on the senior list.

He was originally drafted back in the 2004 NAB AFL Draft.

The 23-year-old has played 25 matches for the Demons.

Although known as a tall forward, he has also played as a pinch-hitting ruckman and more recently as a defender, where he impressed during last October’s Kaspersky Cup, Shanghai Showdown against the Brisbane Lions.
