LEADERS James Frawley and Clint Bartram are chances to return for Monday’s Queen’s Birthday clash against Collingwood at the MCG.

The duo didn’t play in last Saturday night’s opening win of the season against Essendon at the MCG. Frawley withdrew on the Friday and was replaced by James Sellar, while Bartram has missed the past two matches with an ongoing knee injury.

“James will be monitored through this week and if all things progress, he’ll be available for selection,” football manager Josh Mahoney told melbournefc.com.au.

Speedster Sam Blease, who suffered a groin injury against the Dons, must also prove his fitness if he is to take on the Pies.

“Sam received a knock during the second quarter and was subbed out of the game before half-time,” Mahoney said.

“With the extended break this week, we’d hope Sam will be able to play on Monday.”

The Demons could also regain four players - Stef Martin (quadriceps), Jordan Gysberts (jaw), James Strauss (leg) and Leigh Williams (virus) - from injury, although they are likely to return via Casey in the VFL.

Martin, who played 21 matches last year, Gysberts (15) and Strauss (nine) have had injury-interrupted seasons.

If Williams is ready to play, it will be a remarkable return, considering the first-year rookie suffered a virus on the brain and was in an induced coma fewer than six weeks ago.

“At this stage, it looks like we’ll have a number of players returning to play at Casey this week, including James Strauss, Stef Martin, Leigh Williams and Jordan Gysberts,” Mahoney said.

Forward Ricky Petterd will miss a match with a hamstring injury, after he suffered it on the weekend.

“During Casey’s game on Saturday, he sustained a minor hamstring injury,” Mahoney said.

“He will miss this week and we expect him to be available for the next match.”

And 2011 club leading goalkicker Liam Jurrah is sidelined for another three to five weeks with an ankle injury.

Utility Neville Jetta (ankle) and rookie Michael Evans (back) have been out indefinitely in recent times. But both now have timeframes, with Jetta facing four to six matches on the sidelines and Evans out for another six to eight weeks.

“Both Neville and Michael are progressing well and they’ve started running in recent weeks,” Mahoney said.

Ruckman Max Gawn will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury and first-year Demon Rory Taggert is out indefinitely with a back injury.
