THE MELBOURNE Football Club wishes to advise that young forward Jack Fitzpatrick has been diagnosed with type one diabetes.

Jack presented with symptoms consistent with the onset of diabetes early this week. He was then admitted to hospital on Wednesday, following which he was diagnosed with type one diabetes.

Jack spent two days in hospital, and was released on Friday.

While in hospital, Jack spent time with hospital staff and specialists to devise an ongoing care and management plan. The Club has also been in contact with other clubs and players who have successfully managed diabetes while competing in the AFL.

Melbourne's Football Manager, Josh Mahoney, said: "This diagnosis affects Jack in all aspects of his life - however, the positive out of this situation is that Jack¹s symptoms were diagnosed early."

"Jack is aware of current and past players who have successfully managed diabetes throughout their careers, and has a positive attitude towards the future."
