THE MELBOURNE Football Club is pleased to announce the launch of '100% Melbourne', a supporter campaign aimed at raising money to pay 100% of the salary cap and remain 100% debt free.
In August 2008, the Melbourne Football Club community set out on one of the biggest challenges in its history - to demolish a $5 million debt. Three years on, the club is now debt free, but faces new challenges on the horizon.
“Our most important assets right now are on the field and we need to fight to keep all of our future stars in the face of adversity.”
Melbourne Vice President Don McLardy urged Melbourne supporters to stand-up at an important time for the Club.
“We all need to stand up proud for the Club that we love and prove that we are ‘100% Melbourne’.”
“Our aim is to pay 100% of the salary cap, but importantly to remain 100% debt free. This year we have budgeted to pay 92.5% of the salary cap, but given the current climate, we need to do more.
“We know by the previous generosity of our members that they are ‘100% Melbourne’, but once again, we ask them to stand up and help us take another step towards our ultimate goal - a thirteenth premiership.”
Todd Viney, Jack Trengove, Luke Tapscott and Max Gawn have all recently stood up for the Club, and now the Demons are asking the supporters to follow their lead.
The ‘100% Melbourne’ campaign is an extension of the successful Foundation Heroes night, which raised more than $800,000 to support the desire to pay 100% of the salary cap.
