SOME would say wining a raffle in just good luck, but for Steve Laussen, it was more like good karma.
Year after year, Steve has purchased a Melbourne Football Club raffle - not in the hope of winning, but jumping at the chance to make a donation to the Club.
Steve’s loyalty was returned last week when he won the first prize of $40,000.
Steve was quick to decide that a generous portion of the money would be injected back into the Club.
Steve said, “We will donate some of the money back to the Club, we’ll also use the money to support a couple of charities including Reach and Save the Kids. Then we will probably use Club sponsors or the Mates of Melbourne network to get a few jobs sorted out at home.
“We see [buying the raffle ticket] as more of a donation and a small but important contribution to the Club over and above our memberships. I would encourage those who can afford it to participate, as you get the intrinsic benefit of knowing you are doing a little bit extra for your club. Then, of course, if you win it, it is a very pleasant surprise.”
Steve’s loyalty and love for the Club stems backs many years. Growing up, Steve chose Greg Wells’ number to don his guernsey, and went to sleep every night looking at a life-size poster of Stan Alves on his bedroom wall.
