MELBOURNE general manager of list management Tim Harrington says a potential trade scenario to secure Brisbane Lions forward/ruckman Mitch Clark is well down the track.

Since turning its attention to Clark on Wednesday, Harrington said the Demons were now keen to land the 2009 All-Australian nominee.

“We are definitely interested in the possibility of Mitch Clark coming to the club. Late yesterday (Wednesday), I contacted [Brisbane Lions national talent manager] Robbie Kerr to express our interest,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“We asked permission to talk with Mitch and we spoke to his manager about that, so we’re working through the process.

“Right now it’s up to Mitch and if he expresses his desire to come to Melbourne, well, we’re working on that to get a deal done with Brisbane. We’re making really good progress there.

“Our dealings with Brisbane have been really productive and fruitful and they’re saying that they’re happy with the way it’s proceeding from their point-of-view as well.”

Clark, who turns 24 on October 19, has played 82 matches for the Lions since debuting in 2006.

The 200cm tall was originally drafted at No.9 in the 2005 NAB AFL Draft.

In 2011, he topped the club’s goalkicking with 27 goals.

But his best season with the Lions was in 2009, when he finished third in the club best and fairest award.
