MELBOURNE has set its sights on luring a talented 17-year-old player from Greater Western Sydney’s Trade Incentive scheme.
Speaking at the start of trade week, club general manager of list management Tim Harrington said the Dees would be active in attempting to land a talented youngster via this unique method.
“It will be a different trade week this year, given that there is a trading scheme, which enables Greater Western Sydney to conduct an auction for a group of 17 year olds that they were able to nominate for this auction system,” he told melbournefc.com.au.
“Those bids - and to be involved in that selection process -finish on Thursday, which will occupy a reasonable amount of clubs’ attention in the first part of the week. That’s for those clubs who think that they can be part of the auction.
“Some of the players involved in that system are highly credentialed and highly sought after and we’d definitely like to be involved in that. We received some compensation picks for Tom Scully, which are advantageous for us in that trading scheme.
“If it was to be successful and we did get one of those selections, then we’d get one of the elite 17 year olds in the AFL drafting system to add to our already talented young batch. That will be a real focus area for us.”
Harrington said the club would also focus on player specific areas.
“We also have other target areas that will revolve around the roles we see we need to bolster," he said.
