James Frawley (No.8)
Tackles: 32
Todd Viney’s season assessment
James had a terrible injury during the pre-season, which put him behind the eight ball. It took him a while to get going and it took a bit of confidence out of him, particularly with his strength. But by the end of the year, he played some very good footy for us.
Round-by-round assessment

AFL: Round 1 v Sydney Swans
Injured: pectoral muscle
AFL: Round 2 v Hawthorn
AFL: Round 3 v Brisbane Lions
AFL: Round 4 v Gold Coast Suns
It was only a fair game from Chip, after his long break from injury. He just didn’t play in front enough and wasn’t physical enough when the ball was in his area. He made a few basic errors. But he’ll get better with more game-time. Mark Williams
AFL: Round 5 - Bye
AFL: Round 6 v West Coast Eagles
It was a real return to form for Chip. He took the game on, backed himself and finished with 26 disposals. His rebound out of defence was outstanding. He set up a lot of our scoring opportunities through his run-and-carry. Mark Williams
AFL: Round 8 v North Melbourne
Frawley was outstanding. His ability to win the ball one-on-one and the way he used his speed was very important for our team. He was back to some cracking form after a lot of hard-work. Mark Williams
James finished with 19 disposals and had an equal team-high six rebounds. He uncharacteristically fumbled at times but fought the game out. Mark Williams
AFL: Round 11 v Essendon
Chip won the ball well. His rebound from half-back was again a highlight, as were some of his one-on-one contests. He needed to keep building on some solid form. Mark Williams
AFL: Round 13 v Fremantle
James provided plenty of run and carry out of the backline. He kicked the ball well and spoiled with aggression, causing several turnovers that resulted in us taking the ball inside 50. Mark Williams
Chipa had a terrific game. He smothered a very important player in Jay Schulz and provided aggressive rebound. He continued to open up the game with terrific run-and-carry off half-back. Mark Williams
Although Chipa had goals kicked on him, a lot of those resulted from our poor turnovers in the midfield. These turnovers left him exposed and ‘Buddy’ Franklin made us pay. Mark Williams
Chip was frustrated on the day, as our backline was under siege. He didn’t have a lot of impact on the match. Mark Williams
James’ defensive game was OK. He spoiled aggressively and attacked the ball at ground level with vigor. His offensive game lacked his usual penetration and conviction. Mark Williams
Defensively James was very good. He played mostly on Josh Kennedy, who had no impact on the match. Offensively, he never stopped running and won plenty of the ball. Mark Williams
AFL: Round 22 v Richmond
Chip was good in one-on-one contests. He was aggressive, but needed to keep counter-attacking, backing himself and taking the opposition on. Mark Williams
Defensively, James was again very good. He was excellent on Nathan Ablett, who had no impact. His positioning allowed him to take many intercept marks. He had eight spoils and provided good third man-up support. Chip was offensively much better and took the game on with run-and-carry. He switched the play at every opportunity. Mark Williams
James produced a solid game against Jay Schulz, who only kicked one goal and had been in very good form. Frawley’s positioning was outstanding, as was his involvement in our counter attacks. He spoilt well in the air, and won some good contests at ground level. Mark Williams
