BIG MAN MITCH Clark says he is ready to settle as a key forward for the Demons in 2012.

The key recruit had his finest AFL season in 2009, when he played in the ruck for Brisbane Lions. But Clark has also played much of his football as a focal point up forward.

In 2011, Clark booted 27 goals to lead the goalkicking for the Lions.

Already, new Melbourne coach Mark Neeld has told Clark that he will be a prime target in attack.

“I’ve had a few chats here and there with [Neeld] and he’s said that I’ll play up forward,” he said.

“I’m really excited by that opportunity and I’ll be working with the coaches throughout the pre-season to put my best foot forward and to get in the round one side and take it from there.”

But Clark said he was “happy to play in the ruck or anywhere else on the ground”.

“I’m keen to play any role that the coach needs me to play,” he said.

“I’m just keen to play footy, that’s what I’m here for - to play footy.”

Overall, Clark said he was relishing his new opportunity at the Demons.

“I’ve just joined into the main group in the last week and it’s been really enjoyable,” he said.

“I certainly am really well into Melbourne and I like it down here, so it’s really good.”
