MELBOURNE has reached and cracked 20,000 members for the first time pre-Christmas.

As at 11am Friday, Melbourne had 20,003 members for 2011.

Melbourne president Jim Stynes said it was great result by the red and blue faithful to make the commitment before Christmas.

“It’s a fantastic effort by our supporters and we thank them enormously for their contribution,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“But we won’t rest on our laurels and we’re aiming to smash our total for last year and head towards 40,000 members.”

The club has 2,200 members more than at the same time last year.

Reserved seat sales are 19 per cent better than the same stage in 2009.

Demand for premium membership packages (Legends, Trident and Redlegs) has grown, with some categories already reaching 2010 numbers.

Junior memberships are also up eight per cent, compared to pre-Christmas last year.

The club acknowledges the outstanding effort by its supporters to join up for the 2011 season.
