CO-CAPTAIN Jack Trengove, Luke Tapscott, Jordie McKenzie, Neville Jetta and James Strauss are in the mix to play against Hawthorn at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.

Trengove (shin), Tapscott (hip), McKenzie (achilles), Jetta (shoulder) and Strauss (leg) were on Melbourne’s injury list, but are now available for the third week of NAB Cup.

With Jack Grimes (shoulder) set to miss another one to two matches, Trengove will make his captaincy debut for the Demons in this game.

If Strauss plays, it will be his first match since a nasty leg break, sustained against Carlton in round 20 last year.

Football manager Josh Mahoney said the five players were ready to play this weekend, but it was not yet known whether it would be in the AFL, or at VFL level.

“All of these players have completed the necessary rehab requirements, and the next phase of their preparation for the AFL season is to play games,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“All have worked extremely hard in rehab, and have now got to the stage where they are ready for selection.

“The five players will be managed through the rest of the pre-season matches, with the regular season the priority.”

Utility Cale Morton (knee) is on target to return in the final week of NAB Cup.

“Cale is progressing well with one more week of full training. He will be available for selection in NAB Cup week four,” Mahoney said.

Rookie Michael Evans (back) remains out indefinitely, and ruckman Max Gawn (knee) is out for 2012.

Forward Liam Jurrah (wrist) is another 3-4 weeks away.

First-year Demons Rory Taggert (back) and Leigh Williams (back) are three weeks from resuming each.
