Final quarter

Melbourne’s lead was quickly reduced back to a point when Michael Barlow kicked the first goal of the final term.

And when Chris Mayne kicked truly at the seven-minute mark, he put Fremantle in front. From that point, Freo never relinquished the lead.

In the end, Fremantle dominated the last quarter with seven goals to zip, running out 34-point winners.

Third quarter
Fremantle added a trio of goals to start the second half and in the process grab a one-point lead at the 12-minute mark.
 
But when Rohan Bail kicked a brilliant goal from the boundary line, it started a four-goal streak by the Demons. Green added his third during this period and Sam Blease broke away with pace to kick his second.
 
The Demons led by 20 points, before late goals from Michael Walters and Matthew Pavlich, who added his third, helped reduce the margin back to seven points at three quarter-time.

Second quarter
After a frenetic opener, goals were harder to come by in the second term.
 
Fremantle registered the first two majors, but it took 20 minutes until Melbourne booted its first through Rohan Bail. And when Green booted his second soon after, the Dees were up by 18 points.
 
But a late goal from Matthew Pavlich helped pegged the margin back to 13 points at half-time.

First quarter

The Demons started in fine fashion, booting the opening three goals via Stef Martin, Jamie Bennell and Brad Green.
 
Freo got on the board at the 10-minute mark and when Tendai Mzungu landed the visitor’s third in succession, the scores were level mid-way through the term.
 
But the Dees hit back with a hat-trick of goals, courtesy of Sam Blease, Martin, who finished with two for the term, and Colin Sylvia. At quarter-time, the red and blue led by 20 points.
