CHECK out the quarter by quarter updates from Melbourne's clash against Port Adelaide at TIO Stadium in Darwin on Saturday night

First quarter

The Demons started positively when Brad Green kicked the game’s opener.

It soon became goal for goal, until Melbourne booted three in a row to claim a 13-point lead at quarter-time.

Green had two by the first break and singles came via Stef Martin, Jared Rivers and Col Sylvia.

Second quarter

Port Adelaide took control in the second term, booting three goals to zip.

In fact, the Demons did not bother the scoreboard until after the half-time siren, when Green added a behind from a difficult set-shot on the boundary.

The Power kicked 3.5 and took a nine-point advantage into the main change.

Third quarter

The Power increased its lead to 15 points early on when Matthew Broadbent kicked the first goal of the second half. For the rest of the term, it was goal for goal.

Rivers added his second and Sam Blease kicked a fine goal on the run, as Port Adelaide forward Paul Stewart booted two more to have four by the final change.

The Demons trailed by 11 points, but the undoubted highlight of the term was Jeremy Howe's hanger - arguably the finest of his career.

Final quarter

Although the game was still in the balance heading into the final term, the Power took control to win by 28 points.

Port Adelaide kicked the first four of the quarter and when Stewart added his fifth at the 18-minute mark, the Power was up by 33 points. Nathan Jones kicked Melbourne's only major at the 26-minute mark.

The win was the Power's first win over Melbourne in Darwin.
