YOUNG defender Tom McDonald will miss the next one to two weeks with a lung injury, while leaders Mark Jamar and Nathan Jones will face fitness tests in the lead-up to round 15.

And versatile tall James Sellar is also a 50/50 chance for this round, after suffering a thigh injury against the Lions.

McDonald, who will miss this Saturday’s encounter against Richmond at the MCG, could also be in doubt for Melbourne’s round 16 clash against Fremantle at Etihad Stadium.

The second-year Demon suffered a knock to the chest, after colliding with Lion big man Daniel Merrett. The incident occurred early in the first term and McDonald was immediately taken to hospital.

Football manager Josh Mahoney said the 19-year-old would return on Tuesday.

“Tom received a knee to the chest during the early stages of the game in Brisbane,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“He did have bleeding in his lungs and as a result was unable to fly. He is traveling back from Brisbane by car.

“Tom will miss this week’s game and we expect him to be available the following week.”

Jamar and Jones were late withdrawals against the Lions, but Mahoney is hopeful the duo will be right for the Tigers.

“Both Nathan and Mark were given every opportunity to play with the team. They both trained on Saturday and they were unfortunately unavailable for selection,” he said.

“Both will be monitored throughout the week and we’re hoping they’ll be available for this week’s game.”

2010 Keith ‘Bluey’ Truscott Memorial Trophy winner Brad Green is a chance to return this round, after missing the past three matches.

“Brad is recovering well from his quadriceps injury and he’ll train this week and if things progress as expected he will be available for selection,” Mahoney said.

Former vice-captain Aaron Davey could also return from a hamstring injury, which forced him to miss last round.

Key forward Mitch Clark, who will miss the rest of the season with a foot injury, after injuring it against Greater Western Sydney in round 13, is easing up after his operation last week.

“Mitch is recovering from his surgery and is resting up at home,” Mahoney said.
Exciting forward Liam Jurrah (ankle) will miss another two to four matches and midfielder Michael Evans (back) is now only two to three weeks away from resuming.

Defender Clint Bartram and ruckman Max Gawn are out for the rest of the season with knee injuries, while first year Demon Rory Taggert is out indefinitely with a back problem.

Rookie Jai Sheahan (ankle) faces a fitness test this round.
