Assistant coach Mark Williams runs through the 22 players from Melbourne’s 11-point loss to Fremantle at Subiaco Oval on Sunday

Rohan Bail: Rohan had 19 disposals and I thought his work-rate was really good. He missed a few kicks inside the corridor, but as the game went on, he really opened up the game for us. He also provided some counter-attack from defence. He really used his hardness at the ball and ability to run in the second half.

Clint Bartram: Clint had 14 touches and kept Hayden Ballantyne under wraps for most of the game. Although Ballantyne kicked four goals, I don’t think Barty let him get away too often. Clint played him nice and close. I thought Clint also used the ball well.

Matthew Bate: Matthew had 15 touches and his work-rate was good. He won some good contested ball, but on occasions needed to use the ball a bit better and make some better decisions.

Jamie Bennell: Jamie was outstanding. His movement around the forward line was really good. He played really hard on Roger Hayden early on, and stopped him from being able to counter-attack. Jamie also won the ball forward of centre and hit the scoreboard, kicking two good goals. The second one was from a great set-up. His ability to play the structure and set-up really benefits the team.

Cameron Bruce: Cameron was reasonably solid. His focus was to stop his man from having an influence. Cam has been really good the past few weeks, although I don’t know whether we got as much as we would’ve liked from him, because he played a bit deeper. He’s really important for us and he’s got to keep having an influence for us, as he’s an experienced player.

Aaron Davey: I thought Aaron was solid. He set up well early in the day, as part of his role was to help set up the stoppages. But in the second quarter he got caught behind, which didn’t allow us to get the ball. It didn’t allow us to set up the way we wanted to. But he’s such an important player.

Lynden Dunn: Lynden had 13 touches and he started on David Mundy. As the game went on, I thought Dunny really involved himself and was good in the air. He was also good with his attack on the ball, and he got some shots on goal. It was just a shame for his confidence that he didn’t kick that goal in the last quarter.

James Frawley: James was solid again. He keeps winning contested ball. Some of his run out of the backline in the second half was outstanding, and it helped us set up some great counter-attack. Once again, his use of the ball through the corridor was very good.

Colin Garland: Col pressed up really well and his past three weeks have been very good. His confidence is high at the moment and he’s playing well in one-on-one contests.

Brad Green: Probably wasn’t as dominating as last week, but Freo paid pretty strict attention to him. He was still a really important player in the context of the game, kicking a good goal. He also gives us options up forward, the way he reads the play and gets off his man. His work-rate and his leading are fantastic.

Mark Jamar: Russian had a solid game. He contested really well in the ruck and when he went forward, he was involved in some scores. He only took one mark, which is down on his previous weeks, but the positive was that he did well against a really good ruckman in Aaron Sandilands.

Paul Johnson: Paul had his best game for the year. He contested really well in the ruck and he had an influence, being able to get off Sandilands around the ground. His highlight was running down Matthew Pavlich and bringing the ball back in a counter-attack. He’ll take a lot of belief and confidence from the game.

Nathan Jones: Jonesy had a frustrating first half. A couple of things didn’t go his way. In true Jonesy fashion, he became desperate to rectify the situation. He should take a lot of confidence out of his second half, as he did reasonably well.

Liam Jurrah: Liam was reasonably quiet. He was exciting in a few passages of play, but the delivery of the ball wasn’t great in the first half.

Joel Macdoald: I thought some of Joel’s desperate efforts to spoil and his decision-making were fantastic. His ball use back into the corridor helped us set up some really good counter attacks as well.

Jordie McKenzie: Jordie worked his backside off. He spent most of the day on Mundy, who didn’t have as much influence in the second half. Jordie ran himself into the ground and was outstanding. He sacrificed his game for the team and it almost helped us get over the line.

Brent Moloney: Beamer got corked in the very first centre bounce of the game by big Sandilands. He played through with it in the first half, but then he couldn’t run after half-time and his leg blew up like a balloon, which was disappointing, as he’s our key midfielder and target.

Cale Morton: I reckon Cale did some good things in the game. His positioning was good and he helped out in the backline. He played in a few positions for us.

Jared Rivers: I thought Riv was outstanding. His positioning and the way he attacked the ball from the backline helped him win crucial ball. A lot of the time, he turned their attack into our attack, because of his positioning.

Tom Scully: Sculls did a fantastic job on Stephen Hill. I thought Tom worked him over the other way - Tom’s had 22 touches to Hill’s 20. Tom had some key touches in our goalscoring. Having a job for the day helped him take his game to another level.

Col Sylvia: Col started slow, but worked his way into the game to finish with 23 touches. When we pressed up, he was heavily involved in our passages of play.

Jack Watts: Jack won some great balls below his knees. I thought he kicked the ball reasonably well and he was a key link in our counter-attacking as well. It would’ve been nice for Jack, if he had been able to kick that last goal.
