MIDFIELDER Nathan Jones has thrown his support behind the National Stroke Foundation’s ‘Stroke of Genius’ campaign, which is ‘celebrating the brain’ and the genius inside us all.
Jones is one of many who have joined the ‘Stroke of Genius’ online competition, inviting Australians to share their ‘light bulb’ moment.
These bright ideas might not be ground-breaking or have the potential to change the world, but recognise the creative ability of the brain.
This new and unique campaign encourages ideas to be entered into a competition where the public will vote to determine Australia’s favourite Stroke of Genius idea.
Here are Jones’ responses ...
1 - Why are you participating in the Stroke of Genius?
I had a close friend who was impacted by stroke and I wanted to do anything I could to encourage participation in SOG and raise awareness of this important health issue
2 - How does Stroke of Genius differ to other charity fundraiser events or campaigns you have participated in?
SOG is a really unique way to get people thinking about an important health issue
3 - What inspired your Waterproof iPod ‘Stroke of Genius’ idea?
I love surfing and I love music. I have often thought it would be great if you could listen to music while you are waiting out the back for the next set to come in.
4 - Where were you when you had your Stroke of Genius idea?
At Bells Beach, waiting for the next set!
5 - Has someone close to you - perhaps a family member or friend - been affected by stroke?
A close family had a stroke and I saw the impact it had on his life. He is no longer able to work. This is obviously a devastating impact to anyone.
6 - How much do you know about stroke?
I was surprised to learn that stroke kills more Australians than heart disease, including people of all ages and levels of fitness.
