Summary
The Demons are in the second week of a tough three round period, with matches against top four teams Hawthorn, Geelong and Carlton. The Cats at home will be tough. They have not lost at Skilled Stadium for almost four years and have made it a fortress for opposition teams. Melbourne was disappointing against Hawthorn last Sunday, on the back of a good win against Port Adelaide in Darwin. Despite a win and a loss in 2005/06 respectively, the Demons have been poor at Skilled Stadium for the past 20 years. Overcoming the second-placed Geelong would be one of Melbourne’s - and Dean Bailey’s - finest achievements in recent years. The red and blue is eager to keep its season alive and must claim either Geelong or Carlton to help its cause. Geelong, without dual premiership coach Mark Thompson and champion Gary Ablett, has remained a force in 2011, with first-year coach Chris Scott claiming all but two matches. It’s a massive challenge for the Demons, but one they want to tackle head on.

Players to watch
Melbourne: Nathan Jones
The nuggetty Jones has been a consistent performer for the Demons this year and in many respects has gone about his business in an underrated fashion. He has regularly accumulated more than 20 disposals a match, and his flexibility has been an addition to his game in recent times. An addition to the leadership group in 2011, Jones collected a team-best 23 possessions last round to continue his good season.

Geelong: James Kelly
In an elite era at Geelong, Kelly has been an integral and highly valuable contributor, even if he remains somewhat underrated outside of the Cattery. Kelly racked up 32 disposals last round against Richmond and the Demons are fully aware of his capabilities to create a headache.

Match-up to watch
Mark Jamar/Stef Martin v Brad Ottens/Trent West
Both ruck combinations have emerged in recent times and will be critical for their respective sides. Martin has been one of Melbourne’s most improved this year in the absence of Jamar, who recently returned from a knee injury. West has been on Geelong’s list for a while now, but has played the past two matches and will be looking to cement a position. Ottens is a warrior, who has been instrumental in Geelong’s outstanding recent era.

Memorable match
One of Melbourne’s most memorable recent encounters overall, let alone against Geelong, came in Round 20, 2005, with an unexpected win for Melbourne at Skilled Stadium. Having lost seven in a row, and with finals out of the question, there was nothing to lose. Melbourne delivered a win against the odds, full of running and spirit. Robertson triumphed with seven goals, and as the final siren sounded, it was a heart stopping one point win and Melbourne’s first win in Geelong since 1988.

Foot in both camps
Charlie Armstrong, Bret Bailey, Neil Balme, Ivan Baumgartner, Clint Bizzell, Brian Cook, Percy Ellingsen, Brent Grgic, George Haines, Clyde Helmer, Mark Jackson, Peter Johnston, Frank Jorgensen, Nigel Kol, Brent Moloney, Harry Parkin, Eric Peck, Trevor Spencer, Perce Taylor, Ian Toyne, Len Toyne, Jack Watt.

What Dean Bailey says …
“We've gone through the review and the [round 18] performance we put forward was certainly below what we expect. We need to lift."

What @DemonsHQ and Facebook is saying …

Stephen James Brown: As i used to live in geelong and it does get wild weather they have forecasted a "JURRAHCANE" saturday 210pm

Jane Hahn: Hopefully Jurrah will kick 10 goals and we kick Geelongs Butt

Joshua Walsh: The JURRAHCANE will strike!!!

Key Melbourne question
Can Melbourne end Geelong’s record of 27 consecutive wins at Skilled Stadium? If the Demons win, it will be the first time Geelong has lost at the Cattery since round 21, 2007.
