FORWARD line development coach Paul Satterley reviews the Melbourne-listed players who played in Casey’s 90-point win against Collingwood at North Port Oval on Saturday

VFL

Casey Scorpions 21.15 (141) d Collingwood 7.9 (51)

Shannon Byrnes:
Shannon played as a half-forward and also in the midfield and was extremely effective. His work rate was terrific and he finished with 20 disposals, eight inside 50s and two goals. He continually turned up at the drop of the ball at marking contests.

Mitch Clisby: Mitch played under some duress after being ill. This did not impact his performance and he was one of our best defenders, continually taking the game on with his speed and neat skills. He had 20 disposals and four inside 50s, which was a good contribution.

Tom Couch: Tom played an excellent game. He had 41 disposals, seven inside 50s and kicked two goals. He is playing extremely consistent football and along with [James] Magner was combative all day.

Troy Davis: Troy had a very good game. He negated one of Collingwood's key forwards whilst picking up 26 disposals and generating plenty of rebound from half-back.

Max Gawn: Max continued to present himself at marking contests, but he didn't finish off as well as he did the previous week. His 17 possessions and 29 hit outs were still a good contribution.

Tom Gillies: Tom formed part of a defence that restricted Collingwood to seven goals. He defended well and played a solid game.

Jesse Hogan: Jesse has a terrific balance of working high up the ground and utilising his run, combined with competing strongly as a long option. His marking continues to be a strength and he brings the ball to ground. We are really pleased with his continued improvement. He had 15 disposals, nine marks and two goals, which was reward for effort.

Neville Jetta: Nev really started to show signs that he is regaining form and confidence, particularly his second half – 13 possessions, five marks, eight tackles (equal team high) and two goals was an improvement.

James Magner: Jimmy played another excellent game in the midfield and also went forward kicking 1.2 and taking a number of strong marks (eight in total). A 40-possession game highlighted how he performed.

Daniel Nicholson: Daniel played on the wing and continued to back his speed and launched it inside 50 on seven occasions for the game. He had 26 disposals, which was a consistent four quarter effort.

James Sellar: James was very similar to Tom Gillies, both players negated their direct opponent. He had five spoils, which was an equal team high with Troy Davis.

Jake Spencer: Jake was our best performed ruckman this week. He had 10 shots on goal in the past two games, which added another dimension to his game. He had 13 disposals, 26 hit outs, seven marks and kicked 3.3, which was overall a very good game.

James Strauss: James played in the midfield and had limited impact on the game. He started to work into it late finishing with 13 possessions.

Rory Taggert: Rory found it difficult to get into the game as the half-forward. What he did, he did well. He is working to be more consistent over the four quarters.

Josh Tynan: Josh has returned to some quality form and it has been built on his defensive efforts. This is the third week in a row he has led the team in tackles (eight for the game) and he also won 20 possessions and took seven marks.

No development game this week, so Dom Barry, Nathan Stark & Maia Westrupp did not play.
