The match was all but over entering the final term. Geelong booted five behinds before Jeremy Howe landed the first major of the quarter at the 17-minute mark. The Cats got on the board in time-on when James Podsiadly and Steve Johnson kicked truly, as Geelong won by 68 points.

Third quarter: Geelong 11.12 (78) to Melbourne 3.5 (23)
Byrnes kicked his second for the match, snapping a beauty from the pocket, but that one of the few highlights for the Demons in the third term. Josh Caddy kicked two of Geelong’s four goals for the quarter, as the home side took a 56-point advantage into the final term.

Half-time: Geelong 7.10 (52) to Melbourne 2.4 (16)
The Cats kicked the first two goals of the second term via Mitch Duncan and Billy Smedts. It wasn’t until the 24-minute mark until the Demons registered their second major for the game, courtesy of Chris Dawes. At half-time, the Cats led by six goals.

Quarter-time: Geelong 4.5 (29) to Melbourne 1.2 (8)
Geelong got off to a flyer, booting the first three goals. Shannon Byrnes made an early impression against his former side, when he booted Melbourne's first and subsequently its only goal for the quarter at the 12-minute mark. The Cats continued to pepper the scoreboard – they had nine scoring shots by the first change – and led by 21 points at the first change.
