MELBOURNE players not featuring on match day have started watching the game under the tutelage of development coach Andrew Nichol.

The Demons initiated the new program against the Saints at the MCG last Saturday and found it beneficial for their youngsters and injured players.

“This was the first week,” Nichol told melbournefc.com.au.

“I’ve been runner on game day, but the feeling was that this is going to be more of a benefit for our player development on game day.”

The Demons honed in on specific Melbourne and St Kilda players from an MCC corporate suite.

Discussion was generated on what should take place and why certain aspects of the game transpired.

“It’s a real opportune time for them to learn and not just sit here and watch the game as a spectator, but watching the game as a Melbourne footballer wanting to get better, wanting to improve and wanting to learn,” Nichol said.

Jack Grimes, James Frawley and Jordie McKenzie were among the leaders who were in the box, along with youngsters such as Jesse Hogan, Dom Barry and Nathan Stark. International rookie Maia Westrupp was also part of the group.
