MITCH Clark says he wants to be part of Melbourne’s leadership group for a third successive season.

Clark, who played just the opening four matches in 2013, before a reoccurring foot injury ended his season, said he was eager to remain an official leader in 2014.

“It’s something I want to be a part of and I enjoyed my time in the leadership group in the last two seasons. I’ll be putting my hand up for it again,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“It’s a bit different with the way we’re going about it this year and that’ll take care of itself. I’m confident in the process and I’m sure the guys that get promoted into the leadership group will do a great job.

“It’s not something that you think about too much – you just let your training take care of that.”

Meanwhile, Clark said new coach Paul Roos had instilled confidence into the squad.

“He’s been great. There are a lot of new, fresh faces around the footy club, which is exciting,” he said.

“He brings some new training techniques and a new game plan, which we’re starting to learn now, which is going to take a bit of time.

“I’ve really enjoyed the pre-season so far under Roosy and he’s got the runs on the board, so you trust and believe the things that he’s telling us. Hopefully we can put them in place, up until Christmas and then build on the game plan from there in the New Year and get ready to go from round one.”
