FIRST-year Demon Jack Viney is available for selection this weekend, after being sidelined since round seven with a toe injury.

Viney, who has played six matches in his first AFL season, has not played since round six against Gold Coast.

Although it is not yet known if Viney will play against Geelong at Simonds Stadium on Saturday, elite performance manager Dave Misson said the tough-nut, along with leader Jordie McKenzie (elbow) and defender Joel Macdonald (toe) were set to resume.

“All of those guys are right to go. They’ve had a couple of weeks of really good training and conditioning,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“Unfortunately, there wasn’t a VFL game last week, so most of them would’ve played last week, but they’re ready to go for this week.”

Misson said pacy Demon Sam Blease was likely to return, after missing round 15 with an ankle injury.

“Bleasey was looking really good for last week, but he just tweaked his ankle again at training unfortunately,” he said.

“He’s pulled up very well and he’ll train tomorrow (Thursday) and we expect him to play on the weekend, either in the VFL or AFL.”

But key defender James Frawley remains 50/50 due to a hamstring problem, which happened during last Sunday’s 31-point loss to the Sydney Swans at the MCG.

“In the game, he was substituted out, just with hamstring tightness. He didn’t actually have an incident and we were reasonably conservative with that,” he said.

“The scan was really good yesterday (Monday) and clinically he’s pulled up very good. We’re going to take a no risk policy with him. He’d have to be showing nothing at all to play this week.

“He’s still in doubt, but all of the signs that we’ve seen so far have been very good. Chippa will be pushing himself to play, but we’ll just see how that looks later in the week.”

But runner Rohan Bail (knee), midfielder Michael Evans (foot) and ruckman Mark Jamar (toe) are still set to miss up to a month.

“All are making good progress. Jamar and Evans have feet issues and Ro Bail has that medial ligament sprain,” Misson said.

“All of them are doing some solid off legs conditioning and they haven’t started running yet, but we expect that to happen pretty soon.

“They’re three to four weeks from playing again.”

Rookie Nathan Stark remains sidelined for two more weeks with an ankle injury.

“He had that high ankle sprain and it probably hasn’t come along quite as quickly as we would’ve liked,” Misson said.

“He’s another couple of weeks I reckon.”
