NEW Demon Bernie Vince says he wishes he could play a match this weekend, given the enthusiasm that was created from Melbourne’s three-day pre-season camp at Sorrento earlier this week.

Speaking at AAMI Park on Thursday, Vince said plenty of camaraderie was built from the camp.

“Coming out of the camp, it’s created some real excitement around the place,” he said.

“It’s been awesome. Melbourne’s a great city and really welcoming and I’ve loved my time so far [at the club].”

Aside from the bonding, Vince said the players went through coach Paul Roos’ game plan and undertook some sessions with Leading Teams.

Although he said the game plan had strong elements of the competition’s successful sides, Vince said Melbourne was determined to create its own path.

“There were references to the best sides in the competition and the way they go about their footy … but we want to create our own history,” he said.

“As all sides do every year, [they] take little bits from the sides that do it the best and try and implement it into their game and create the way we want to play and our brand of footy.”

Although Vince joked that it “wasn’t too great” that he was fourth oldest at the club, he said he was determined to help the younger brigade out at Melbourne. But he was adamant that every player was a leader in their own right.

“Everyone’s a leader at the club. We’ve got a young list and it’s going to take all of us to step up in that area,” he said.

“Guys like myself and Crossy have come in and played a lot more footy than the other guys and [we’re] a lot older than some of them.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re in the leadership group or not, everyone is [going to be one].”

Vince, who lived with former teammate Taylor Walker in Adelaide, is living with new teammate Chris Dawes and his fiancée Paige at the moment.

“It’s a little bit different. Dawesy’s got a lovely girlfriend in Paige and ‘Tex’ was as single as they come,” he said with a laugh.

“It’s been great. It’s been good fun.”
