YOUNG Demon Tom McDonald says he can’t wait to play under new coach Paul Roos, after having a meeting with him on Monday.

McDonald, who underwent shoulder surgery last Friday, said Roos spoke to him about the upcoming training period and his position for 2014.

“I went and had a quick chat with him on Monday and got his thoughts about the pre-season, upcoming season, my role and where I’ll play,” he said.

“He seems very enthusiastic, and it was great to meet him.

“He seems like a really good bloke, and I’m really looking forward to getting to work with him. I’m as excited as everyone else is.”

McDonald said the Demons were rapt to have the 2005 Sydney Swans premiership coach on board for at least the next two – and potentially – three seasons.

“It is a help knowing Roosy has been there and done that before and he’s won a premiership,” he said.

“He’s coached great teams and it does give you a mental boost, but it doesn’t guarantee you anything, and it doesn’t mean that we’re going to win 10 games next year and play finals.

“There is a bonus of getting a guy like him as coach, but it doesn’t mean anything in terms of wins and losses straight away. We’ve got to put the work in – the players have to play and he doesn’t get to go out there and play – so we’ll see what happens. It is a bit of a bonus getting someone like him.”
