YOUNG-gun Jack Viney says he won’t change his aggressive style of play or his attack on the ball, even if it means copping several injuries along the way.

The hard-at-it midfielder often finished matches with bandages around his head after continually putting his body on the line during his debut season.

But he said a chat with former Melbourne coach Neil Craig helped him deal with playing through pain.

“When I hurt my foot and broke my jaw [last year], I spoke to Neil Craig and he said with the current footy I do play that I’ll be injured and I’ll have to learn how to deal with the rehab and come back as quickly as possible,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“I never really tried to curb my aggression or anything like that to have a long, lasting career, because I feel like fearlessness and aggression at the footy is my strength. If I didn’t have that, I wouldn’t be too good a footballer.

“It’s something that I enjoy doing and I love putting my head in the hole and getting smashed. Waking up the next morning with a few bumps and bruises is a pretty good feeling and something I miss during the off-season.”

Viney played 13 matches in 2013, but was sidelined for eight weeks with a toe injury.
