ON THE BACK of its first round shocker against Port Adelaide, Melbourne has made four changes at the selection table for Saturday night’s clash against Essendon at the MCG.

The Demons have included co-captain Jack Trengove, debutant Dean Terlich, 2009 best and fairest winner Aaron Davey and key defender Tom McDonald, who finished third in last year’s club champion award.

Defender Lynden Dunn, who played his 100th match last Sunday, will miss the next two to three matches with a hamstring injury.

Recruits David Rodan and Cam Pedersen, plus versatile small Luke Tapscott have been omitted.

The return of Trengove comes after he was sidelined on the eve of Melbourne’s Northern Territory pre-season camp, early last December, with a foot stress fracture.

He returned to play his first match of 2013 in between Melbourne’s last pre-season match against Gold Coast Suns and last round, when he played for Casey in a VFL practice match.

Trengove also had another run for the Scorpions last week and will now line up for his 60th AFL match.

Terlich’s story is one of persistence.

Originally from Henty, New South Wales, he spent one year with the Sydney Swans as a rookie in 2008, before moving to South Australia to further his career.

He then became a fine player in the SANFL last year, winning the Jack Oatey Medal for best-on-ground in Norwood’s Grand Final victory.

The 23-year-old running half-back impressed for Melbourne during the pre-season and shone for Casey last week with 33 disposals.

Davey, whose past two seasons have been injury-riddled, has bounced back with a stronger pre-season and is set to play after being named an emergency for round one.

McDonald, who missed four weeks with an ankle injury during the NAB Cup/pre-season period, returned last week for Casey.

The Demons have not lost to the Bombers since 2009 and will be desperate to hit back hard after a dismal first up effort against the Power.

The match starts at 7.40pm.
