HAVE you ever wanted to be Colin Garland for a day? Well, the Grade Four students from Sholem Aleichem College now have the chance, by winning the ‘Colin Garland of the Day’ award, which is given to the student who best exhibits the values of responsibility, leadership, teamwork and making positive change.

Garland’s visit to the school resonated with the students when he spoke about his responsibilities as a Read Like a Demon ambassador, football player, member of the leadership group and a volunteer at the Reach Foundation.

It was then that the ‘Colin Garland of the Day’ award was founded, with Garland being named the inaugural winner! All recipients of the award add their name to the ‘Wall of Fame’. Despite Garland’s modest nature, he happily added his name to the ‘Wall of Fame’ in the classroom.

Grade Four teacher, Dvora, said, “Colin has an impressive ability to connect. The students came away from the experience understanding how their actions, no matter how small, can make a difference to the world.“
