DEFENDER Neville Jetta says he gained great support from the overall football community after he was racially vilified during Melbourne’s round eight clash to the Western Bulldogs at the MCG.
Jetta said he was frustrated when he found out he had been subjected to unsavory comments following Melbourne’s loss to the Bulldogs.
“The first time I heard it, it was pretty disappointing, so I sat down with our PDM (personal development manager) ‘Bongo’ (Andrew Nichol) and spoke to him about the best way to go about it,” he told melbournefc.com.au.
“I just really want to educate people more and stop racism. To see the likes of how Adam Goodes, Michael Long and Nicky Winmar went about it – they’ve given us a platform to stand on and push forward for what I needed to do.
“I got in contact with the footy club and Sam, my partner, did as well. I just wanted to stamp it out and hopefully it’s a good outcome. I’m very thankful for the support from the Melbourne Football Club and the Western Bulldogs.
“I’m just very thankful for the support and from some of the fans as well. I’m chatted to a few of them and also [received support] on social media as well.”
