FORMER Port Adelaide midfielder Ben Newton has had his first training run with Melbourne, after joining the club as a delisted free agent earlier this month.
He joined in Melbourne’s Monday training session at Gosch’s Paddock, as all senior players returned for pre-season.
Newton, who played four matches with the Power, made his AFL debut against Greater Western Sydney in round seven this year.
Former Carlton goalsneak Jeff Garlett was also on the track, along with 2010 Collingwood premiership player Heritier Lumumba, who had his second run with Melbourne, after starting last Friday.
Father/son recruit Billy Stretch was also in action, with father Steven, who won Melbourne’s 1987 best and fairest, watching on.
Former Giant Sam Frost has been training well since returning with the first to four year players earlier in November.
Ruckman Mark Jamar – Melbourne’s current longest serving player – was also back on the park.
Jamar is now entering his 14th pre-season after he was originally drafted as a rookie back in December 2001.
