- Melbourne became the first side to lose to GWS in Victoria – and at the MCG. It was also just the second time the Giants have won an away clash, after their round 14 victory earlier this year against the Brisbane Lions
- The Demons also lost their third match in a row against the Giants, meaning Melbourne hasn’t defeated GWS since round four, 2013. The ledger is now three wins each between the two sides.
- Melbourne’s score of 3.16 (34) was its equal third lowest score for the season. Its lowest score remains 3.10 (28) against Collingwood in round 12.
- Melbourne’s final score of 3.16 (34) was one of its most inaccurate of all-time – from 15-plus scoring shots. Scores of 2.15 in 1903 and 1919, 2.14 (1978) and 2.13 (1902, 1908) have been more inaccurate for the red and blue.
- GWS won by 64 points, but had just four more scoring shots than Melbourne (23 to 19).
- Melbourne suffered its fourth loss by 60-points or more this season, but it suffered 12 defeats by 60-points of more in 2013.
- The Demons booted 0.7 combined in their second (0.5) and third quarters (0.2).
- Melbourne won just one quarter – the opening term. It booted 2.4 to 2.1.
- The Demons had more contested possessions (125 to 118), clearances (34 to 30) and inside 50s (45 to 42).
- Nathan Jones had 30 disposals. It was the ninth time he has 30 touches or more in a match this season.
