NATHAN Jones says he’s not thinking about the possibility of winning his third successive Keith ‘Bluey’ Truscott Memorial Trophy, even though he’s a leading contender for this year’s club best and fairest award.
Jones, who won the award in 2012-13, could join the likes of Allan La Fontaine, Jim Stynes, Jack Mueller, Hassa Mann and Laurie Fowler to have won at least three Melbourne best and fairests. La Fontaine and Stynes are the only two Demons to have won four each.
But Jones said his focus was “completely with the team” in the last five rounds.
“There is a lot to gain for us as a group and I’m more excited for how we’re building as a group and the direction we’re heading as a team,” he said.
“I’ve probably never been more excited in my time here about how the style of footy that we’re playing and the system that we’ve got in place, and the effort that we’ve put in – even though we didn’t win in Port Adelaide – it was one of the prouder times I’ve been of my teammates.
“There is a lot of opportunity in the next five weeks and for me personally I want to try and maintain the form that I’ve played for most of the year. More importantly, there is a lot to gain as a group.”
