First quarter: Geelong 3.7 (25) to Melbourne 0.2 (2)

Geelong dominated the opening term, leading by 23 points at the first break, but it could’ve led by a much greater margin.

The Cats had 10 scoring shots, but managed 3.7, including six consecutive behinds in time-on.

Melbourne could muster just two behinds for the quarter via Lynden Dunn and Luke Tapscott.

Second quarter: Geelong 11.10 (76) to Melbourne 2.5 (17)

The second quarter was a shocker for the Demons, as the Cats blew the game open.

Geelong piled on eight goals to lead by 59 points at the main change.

Melbourne managed just two majors – both from Jeremy Howe – after he booted back-to-back goals at the 16 and 20-minute mark respectively.

Third quarter: Geelong 12.13 (85) to Melbourne 4.6 (30)

Just three goals were added in the third term, with the Demons managing to outscore the Cats: 2.1 to 1.3.

Cam Pedersen and Dean Kent kicked Melbourne’s goals for the quarter, with Steve Johnson adding Geelong’s only major for the term.

But it mattered little in the overall scheme of the match, as the Cats still led by 55 points entering the final quarter.

Final quarter: Geelong 14.18 (102) d Melbourne 5.6 (36)

With the game all but over, it was a matter of how far the Cats or whether the Demons could reel in the margin somewhat.

In the end, Geelong added another two goals to one to claim a 66-point win.

Bernie Vince was Melbourne’s only goalkicker in the final term.
