PRESIDENT Glen Bartlett says he won’t get involved in James Frawley’s contract negotiations.

Bartlett said it was not his place to get involved and that it was Josh Mahoney’s area, who is manager of football operations.

“Josh Mahoney’s our footy manager … and he’s responsible [for that],” he told Triple M pre-match before Melbourne’s clash against Collingwood at the MCG on Queen’s Birthday.

“James has made his position very clear and he’s put off talks until the end of the year and we respect that.

“He wants to make sure the club’s on the right track and we certainly believe we’re on the right track.”

Frawley, who is a free agent this year, has put contract talks on hold until the season’s end.

Speaking about his position as president, Bartlett said he was privileged to be in the role and had always been passionate about football.

He said he wanted to join Melbourne to simply make a difference.

Bartlett added that coach Paul Roos was a man of “great character” and “we’d be mad not to look for a role [for him] beyond” three years.

He said the club was also hopeful of playing further matches in the Northern Territory, following last round’s impressive display in Alice Springs.

“We are committed [to keep playing matches in the NT],” he said.
